Café Los Galgos

Address: Av. Callao 501 – San Nicolás

This caffe was founded in 1930 and it is a downtown classic. It is the Ramos brothers’ café who mingle among the habitués. It keeps its original look, with its wooden chairs, bronze taps with the shape of a swan and swinging doors among other details. Along its life, a long list of great personalities have been habitués of the place; Camdícamo, Osvaldo Mirando, Enrique Santos Discépolo and Tania among others. Since it is only a few steps away from Sadaic, it used to be the meeting point of the authors and compositors of our music. It is said the first proprietor was keen on Greyhounds (galgos), and when the Ramos father bought the place from him, he decided he would keep the original name.
This is a surviving postcard of “the” cafés of Buenos Aires, where magic and mystery reign.
